Sealants

Sealants are materials used to prevent fluids and other substances from passing through surfaces. These sealant products also block air leakage, insects, dust, sound and heat. Sealants come in many types and may be weak or strong, flexible or rigid, and temporary or permanent. The most common ones are an adhesive sealant, clear silicone sealant, and silicone sealants. They are typically used to close openings between two or more components where other materials like concrete or mortar cannot be used. To achieve their basic functions--filling the gap between two or more components, providing an impermeable barrier through which nothing can pass and maintaining their sealing properties throughout their expected lifetime under service conditions--sealants must be matched with the materials they will join.
